Kavallieri AGM 2010 /2011

RUGBY : KAVALLIERI THROW DOWN THE GAUNTLET.

Kavallieri Megaman Cisk Excell RFC held their AGM at the Clubhouse in Hamrun which issued a strong challenge to the rugby community, as Team Manager David Borg and Coach Patrizzio  Allegrucci presented the policy for season 2010/2011, with the aim of winning top spot in all categories, and setting a high standard for Maltese rugby.

The announcement that the club is the first to appoint its own Director of Rugby is a major factor and former English Premier League player and coach Mr. Mat Emmerson is bound to have a big influence over the local rugby scene. Besides playing at top level, Mr. Emmerson has coached at high level in England, France and Canada.

In a brief introduction he emphasized that the Youth are the lifeblood of the game, that the Women’s rugby is crucial, and that the after match and off field social aspect is also very important indeed.

As a super fit man himself he emphasized the importance of consistent training and team dedication.

The club is adopting a tightly run business planning system as advised by the MRFU, aiming to expand membership and attract parents of youths. Online merchandise sales will be launched.

Under the guidance of Joe Cutajar, the Youth section has produced 15 new senior players for the coming season, and will continue its work within schools.

The Women, guided by Sue Bradley, are in a state of reviving after several senior players have retired and an early and strong recruitment drive will be important.

Among the new players Alex Brincat, a Maltese from Leicester, UK, who is an experienced utility back, may well bring much needed guidance for the strong but tactically naïve backline.

It could well be that the famed Kavallieri spirit will be instrumental in leading Maltese Rugby to even higher levels.

Mike Turner, Valletta, 4th August 2010.

Roderick Attard, a valued player with Kavallieri RFC off to UK to trial for Rugby League.

Gateshead Thunder have handed a trial to Maltese international half-back Roderick Attard with a view to a permanent move for the 2010 season.

The 25-year-old Attard, who plays for club side Kavallieri RFC, has switched codes from union to league and is keen to establish himself in the 13-man game.

"I have been training and playing rugby union for the past six years," he said.

This is an opportunity that I cannot miss for me to improve my rugby skills and learn more about rugby league."

The trial has been funded by Thunder and supporters group Squadbuilder, following an earlier link-up between the club and the Maltese rugby league side.

Anthony Micallef, the Rugby League European Federation's Malta development officer, is keen for Attard to make the most of the chance presented to him by the North-East club.

"It is another outstanding opportunity presented to Roderick and one I trust he will take with both hands," he said.

"There will be much for Roderick to learn and the Malta Rugby League wishes Roderick all the best on the new opportunity that rugby league has given him."

THE KAVALLIERI CODE

1. Respect all other Kavallieri members and be proud to be a Kavallier, come rain or shine. No matter what, even if we our down to our last man, than that man will bear our flag with pride!

2. Each member whether playing or not has to have an active role within the club setup. The roles are many and include committee, coaching, team management, social activity, fund raising, hands on jobs and general voluntary work.

3. Never moan or groan! If a Kavallier has a problem then he needs to act upon it by addressing it to the direct person and ideally coming up with solutions to resolve or improve such situations.

4. Be on time for all club appointments, whether training, matches, social events or fund raising activities. If you cannot make it on time due to a valid reason then you are expected to report this to the person concerned (each member will get a contact list of all such persons prior to each season).

5. Help around whenever you can, don't be asked to help and keep yourself useful. After training, matches, social events, etc. even if there is a designated Kavallier for a role all the rest should help in the best way they can.

6. Our main activity is rugby and as this wonderful game has thought us, rugby is not just about playing the game! A holy part of our game is the famous 3rd half in which every player involved in any fixture needs to show up at least for half an hour!

7. Each Kavallier needs to have a song or game which he is specialized in. During 3rd halves, social and fund raising activities such role may come in play and the individual is to perform his sacred act.

8. Promote our club and sponsors in anyway you can as finally it is thanks to the club setup and our sponsors that we manage to run this club as we do. Every little bit contributes.

9. Be positive in all situations, when beaten to the ground, the only way to overcome the situation is to believe you can stand back up. With this mentality you will always achieve against all odds.

10. Speak to your fellow brother in breach of the code and help him get in line so that he may reap the benefits of being a true and strong Kavallier!

11. The Kavallieri RFC is every single member. The club is represented by every single member, whether a playing member or non.

Failure to abide to "The Kavallieri Code" may result in disciplinarily action, match bans, suspension from all club activities and in the worst repetitive cases dismissal from the membership.
